Facebook Account was hacked. I dont go on Facebook as much as I used to, so the *** happened at 1pm and I didnt notice until I went to go on Facebook right before bed at 11pm last Thursday.
I was immediately asked to log my password and when I submitted forget password since it wasnt working, I hit ok before realizing it was not my email it was sending the reminder to. At this point it had been hours. Hacker was able to switch out email and remove my phone number since I did not have two factor authentication on, and Facebook, member since 2008, was going to an email still on my phone, but not an active email. I did not see any of the log in info until it was too late.
I tried to contact Facebook and learned quickly there is no human interaction at all on that point. I was able to go into Facebook.com/hacked and put in my old password. Which I assume atleast locked my account for both me and my hacker. I was able to switch the email back to my current email.
But to prove my identify, I was still locked out, too many codes had been entered presumably by me and my hackers ransomwear I had to wait 24 hours, twice and still had to show a picture of my ID to prove my identify atleast 15-20 times before I was finally directed to a link to reset my password and by password the code generator the hacker had placed on my account. Persistence and knowing this was in fact my account, did finally pay off. I felt vulnerable and violated to know I couldnt get back into my account, all the pictures and posts and following I have accumulated since 2008, almost gone. And also, knowing there wasnt one person I could talk to in Facebook and tell my frustration too.
It should have been a lot easier to clear up.
It makes me nervous in the future. I cant tell if the hackers did anything to my account, but I would be lying if I didnt say it feels weird being back in my account, knowing someone else has access to all my personal info.
